ISLAMABAD: The re-appointment of the spouse of Chief Justice Supreme Court Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Ashraf Jahan, as the judge of Federal Shariyat Court(FSC), has been challenged in Islamabad High Court.

Moulvi Iqbal Haider, Advocate, submitted the petition in the IHC in which he took the stance that the Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification of the appointment of the wife of CJP, Ashraf Jahan, on the post of judge Federal Shariyat Court, which is a clear cut violation of Article 174 of the constitution. He told the court during his arguments that Ashraf Jahan, wife of Chief Justice Supreme Court, was working as Additional Session Judge Karachi, then she was elevated to High Court as Additional Judge. Then she was made the Judge of Federal Shariyat Court in 2013. Now she has been given an extension for two years. He pleaded the court to declare all the appointments null and void. In his petition, Advocate Haider made the Principal Secretary to the President of Pakistan, Secretary Ministry of Law and Justice, Mrs Ashraf Jahan Jamali, Secretary Judicial Commission of Pakistan and Secretary Parliamentary Committee responsible for appointment of judges in the apex court and the Senate Secretariat Party.
