ISLAMABAD: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said on Thursday that the country needed independent organisation for transparent and across the board accountability.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Panama leaks, he said that corruption was one of the major curses in the country and should be completely eliminated by establishing an empowered and independent organisation for accountability of the corrupt elements. He demanded that a resolution should be tabled in the joint sitting of the parliament to declare Pakistan a corruption free country.
He also criticised double-standard of western countries for raising voice against human rights violations but at the same time providing safe havens for stocking black market money and plundered wealth. He asked the United Nations to set-up an international body to take action against countries providing such safe havens for money laundering and illegal transference of money.
He said that both domestic and foreign policies should originate from the parliament and advocated good relations with all neighbours including Afghanistan and India.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sahibzada Tariqullah said that his party would bring anti-corruption bill to stop illegal means of accumulating wealth through corruption and sought help from opposition and treasury benches to pass the bill. He demanded ruthless and across the board accountability of people from all walks of life involved in corruption including those whose names have appeared in Panama Papers.
