DG fisheries supersedes director’s powers

KARACHI: While bypassing and in excess of his powers, the Director General of Fishries (Marine) Sindh has rejected the teams notified by his department’s lady director to contain illegal fishing in the open sea during the banning period i.e. June and July, 2017.

According to sources, the Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on fishing of shrimps i.e. Kalari, Jaira, Kiddy and freshwater fishes i.e. Rahu, Mori, Thaila, for two months starting from 1st June to 31st July, 2017 vide notification No 5(3)SO FISH/28F/161092.

With an aim to ensure strict compliance on the ban on every kind of fishing, Director Fisheries Sindh (Marine) Rukhsana Asghar has constituted thee vigilance teams to observe the close season during the ban period for the coastal belt of Sindh.

The team comprising officials of Fisheries Directorate ie Nisar Ahmed Kalhoro, Qadir Bux Charan, Azeem, Talha Ali, Ghulam Mustafa, Yousaf Bhatti, Khuda Bux, Chand and Noor Abro would ensure vigilance at Ibrahim Hyderi to Korangi, Babar Market, Ali Akbar Goth, Bengali Para, Chakra Goth, Bilal Colony, Shah Faisal colony, Rehri Goth, Lath Basti, Quaidabad, Steel town market and Ghaghar to Dhabeji.

While the other team comprising Umar Kalhoro, Muhammad Shakil, Ayaz Hussain Bhatti, Nawaz Ali, Akbar, Jamil Khan and Saqib Ali would ensure vigilance at Keamari, Fish Harbor, Saddar, Clifton, Delhi Colony, Mawach Goth, Hawksbay, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Water Pump and Sohrab Goth.

Another vigilance team comprising Hanif Lund, Zulfikar Ali Kalhoro, Bashir Ahmed Sobhani, Muhammad Ibrahim, Yar Muhammad, Aziz Ahmed, Amir Bux Jat and Urs Matchi would keep vigil at costal belt of districts Thatta, Sajawal and Badin.

Interestingly, soon after the notification of the above mentioned vigilance teams, the director-general fisheries Ghulam Muhammad Mahar, bypassing rules and regulation, issued another notification notifying another vigilance committee of his blue-eyed officials. As per new notification, Muhammad Saleem Akhtar would be the team leader while Qadir Bux Charan, Maqsood Ahmed, Mohsin Ali Jalbani, Naveed Ul Hassan, Zulfikar Ali, Nadeem Ur Rehman and Fazal-e-Haque will be the members of the committee to perform vigilance job.
