ISLAMABAD: People’s devotion for Sufism can easily be seen across the sub-continent, but in case of long delayed Bari Imam Complex, the same devotion and love for the shrine has become major hurdle in the completion of said project as the committee members fails to provide marble stone for the shrine area as per their commitment.
Sources in CDA revealed that the management committee has made commitment to provide marble and Zari (grill) for the shrine from their own pocket voluntarily to get reward against this donation, but they have been failed to fulfill their commitment and neither amount nor marble was received to contractor so far, which is causing delay in the completion of project.
While responding on the long delay in Bari Imam Complex, the Project Director of CDA Tahir Mahmood has said; “The contractor has completed construction work on the site and only placing of seven thousand square feet marble and Zari for shrine area is pending.” He confirmed that the management committee was made commitment to provide this material voluntarily, saying, “we have already requested commissioner Islamabad to ask committee members for the provision of marble stone and Zari as per their commitment.”
The Director revealed to Daily Times; “the original proposal of the project was included steel Zari and simple marble for the shrine area, but committee members modified the proposal and decided to put Zari made with brass in replacement of steel Zari and a special white marble in place of simple marble on their own expenditure.”
The devotees and lovers of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi-Bari Imam (RA) has been facing problems from last couple of years due to the ongoing construction work on the shrine of aforementioned great Sufi saint, but now the delay in the completion of project irks the visitors and they demand early completion of the project.
Hundreds of people coming across the country on daily bases to visit Bari Imam, but they can’t see the Shrine area as it is cordoned off by putting tents around it due to incomplete construction work on the site.
An officer inside the CDA has said; “Basically only two committee members the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Lt. General (R) Afzal Janjua, who were made this commitment. They should act on their commitment or otherwise tell the authority they can’t provide the material.”
Daily Times tried to contact one of the committee members General (R) Afzal Janjua but he refused to comment. The committee to overlook the project is headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, whereas General (R) Afzal Janjua, Islamabad chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, CDA chairman, Project Director Bari Imam Complex and officials from Auqaf are the members of committee.
