Author: Staff Report

KARACHI: A widespread prevalence of corruption in health sector all over the province, billions utilised to improve deteriorating conditions of government-run hospitals. The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah expressed grief and anger over a failure of recovery of 12-year old girl by a quack in Pangrio Badin.

The Sindh chief minister suggested Sindh Anti-Corruption Department not to spread fear or threat to the incompetent officials but educate them against corruption, while Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed his displeasure and shock to know that a quack in Pangrio town of Badin has badly infected arms and legs of a 12-year old girl.

The doctors in Karachi left with no options, but amputated her legs and arms just to save her life.

On the occasion, the chief minister expressed, “This is very serious that the quacks keep playing with the lives of poor and innocent people openly but now enough is enough.”

It may be noted that a 12-year old girl Najma Khaskheli suffered from diarrhoea and her father took her to a clinic in Pangrio, where she stayed for three days. When she returned home, her arms and legs started swelling. Her father, Hanif, a donkey-cart rider by profession, rushed to the same quack clinic, there she was referred to JPMC Karachi.

The doctors in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) severed her arms and limbs because infection had badly affected her.

The Sindh CM has directed his Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) to start inquiry urgently and take interviews of the doctors, who treated the poor girl right from the first day and trace out where it went wrong that the poor girls had to lose her limbs just for her life. He said, “This is extremely painful and heart-breaking to see a poor girl with bandages on her chopped arms and legs.” He said that from how much anguish, distress and despair the innocent girls would be passing through to find herself in the plight of lifetime disability could be imagined easily. This is a crime against humanity and must be dealt accordingly. The chief minister also directed the health minister to start crackdown against the quakes in every nook and corner of the province.

Despite of all facts over the corruption and mismanagement of funds in the Karachi’s government-run hospitals as well districts and taulkas, rural heath centers and basic health centers, high level corruptions have been observed after tenders issued during purchase of billions of health care apparatus at several cities, district, BHUs, RHCs of districts
in province.

The hospitals are without basic amenities of water, electricity and improper functions of all units and (OT) machines, which also depicts a true picture of failures.

The health professionals among senior doctors, professors enjoying ex-Pakistan leaves without any permission. The incident was deeply condemned by the civil society and demanded action for justice.
