A beauty blogger is urging people to ditch deodorant in favour of fresh lime juice – but warns users off going in the sun or shaving. YouTube star Farah Dhukai, who is known for her bizarre natural beauty remedies including using garlic to cure pimples and diaper rash cream for acne – claims lime juice kept her ‘extremely dry’ in the heat.

Farah Dhukai, who is from Toronto, Canada, but is currently in Miami, demonstrated on Instagram how to use lime as a natural alternative.

“It’s so hard to find a deodorant that keeps me dry and odour-free all day without reapplying. This DIY deodorant not only kept me extremely dry in this hot and humid Miami weather, it kept me smelling fresh all day,” she writes.

In a video, she demonstrates how to apply it by cutting a lime and then rubbing it under the arm pits. However, its inconvenient downfall lies in her warning to followers to “avoid sun exposure or tanning” and she advises them not to apply lime after shaving because she said it will sting.

She said, “Users should either cut the lime into little pieces or juice the lime into cotton before applying to the armpit after showering and leaving to dry.”

The video has attracted more than 17,000 likes and a range of responses from those, who think it is ridiculous to those, who have tried it and claim it works. “That’s a good trick, however the peel of the lime it’s very acid and it will stain your skin,” wrote one viewer.

Another said, “This is actually true. My mom told me, when I was younger to do this and it does work.” As well as killing germs on the skin, lime juice has also been linked to treating diarrhoea and nausea. Lime oil is used as a fragrance component and ‘fixative’ in cosmetics.
