ISLAMABAD: Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan on Saturday lived up to expectations by convincingly winning the men’s singles title of the Hascol National Ranking Tennis Championships at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex. Pakistan No.1 Aqeel succeeded in winning the first set easily against Mohammad Abid Mushtaq who failed to put up any resistance in the first set. The second set saw Abid take lead but his rival staged a strong comeback by winning the set 6-4 with Aqeel repeating the same performance in the third set to win it 6-4.
On the other hand, ladies singles final played earlier in the morning was rather more interesting and went to full distance with finalists Sara Mahboob Khan and Sara Mansoor engaging each other from the baseline. However, Sara Mahboob, who is former Pakistan No.1, defeated the current Pakistan No. 1 to win the ladies singles final 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1. Also, Muzammil Murtaza beat Syed Nofil Kaleem 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 in boys U-18 singles final.
