83 LPG companies including Aitzaz’s wife benefited from Musharraf quota

ISLAMABAD: As many as two dozen Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) companies benefited from Musharraf’s LP G quota system and minted huge sum of money at the cost of public resources by using their political position.

Company of wife of senior Pakistan People Party PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan is among the coteries of other aristocratic personalities who were awarded LPG quota, violating laws.

The Daily Times got the report which contains the details of the companies that were benefited by Musharraf while distributing LPG quota in order to extinct the voices against his military rule.

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry could not take punitive action against LPG mafia when the case in his court was filed by LPG distributors against the monopoly of LPG companies.

In order to prolong his unconstitutional rule and to quelled the rebellion against his government in the country, Musharraf showered un precedent benefits using national assets to his detractors including Aitzaz Ahsan who was the main critics of his government.

The person who benefited from LPG quota during military rule belong to all walk of our social life including politics, military, legal fraternity, judges, bureaucracy, showbiz, industrialist, landlords, journalists, and traders.

These companies have now become LPG Cartel which is reportedly taking more than 200 billion rupees from the poor people pocket by raising the price of LPG without taking into consideration the law of the country.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of National Assembly also took the notice of LPG companies’ monopoly and corruption when Auditor General submitted a report about a corruption of these companies during an extraordinary meeting.

PAC then directed Ministry of Petroleum to furnish detailed the report of those LPG Companies which took LPG quota from Musharraf and minted huge sum of money at the cost of public resources.

The source told that Ministry of Petroleum directed its subsidiary institutions like OGDCL, PPL and Pak Arab Refinery to provide details of those companies which got quota during military regime.

LPG producer institutions have prepared a preliminary report complying PAC direction and the report is now available with Daily Times.

The Daily Times has been confirmed by the distributors that these LPG companies have formed a cartel in the country to fleece the poor people but the government department and OGRA has failed to chain the greediness of these people.
