RAWALPINDI: Rs 300 million has been allocated in the 2017-18 budget for construction of a model graveyard in Dhamiyal Rakh area of Rawalpindi on 1,000 kanals of land.

According to details, six buses will be provided for funeral services in the graveyard. Work on construction of boundary walls, tree plantation and water availability projects will start in July.

The model graveyard of Dhamiyal Rakh will be similar to the graveyards in I-8 and H-11 and it will have bricked paths and lights.

An administrative structure will also be worked out for allotment of graves, its preparation and protection and safety. As soon work on the project is completed, a ban will be imposed on digging new graves in the existing graveyards in Rawalpindi city and cantonment. Member National Assembly Malik Ibrar said the decision had been taken on the demand of the local people.
