‘KP govt will spend millions on education and health’

PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would spend Rs 200 millions to provide free education and health facilities to the transgender community under the patronage of the social welfare department.

Director social welfare, Naeem Khan on Tuesday said that the provincial government at the eleventh hour to conclude a comprehensive planning to make the life style of transgender community better and peaceful. TEVTA would provide education and skills to 400 transgender people, additionally the government would provide the facility of food and hostel to 200 members with a monthly stipend. Apart from the education and skill, the government was also planning to provide free health facilities and financial assistance to 400 transgender persons he added. However, only registered transgender people would be able to acquire the government facilities of health and education under the planning. Speaking with the media social activist for the transgender community and representative of the Blue Vanes Qamar Naseem said that the government with the help of Non-Government Organization has initiated the registration of the community for the said purpose. He said that the provincial government has for the first time introduced a plan pertaining to the transgender community and allocated maximum funds in this regard to prepare them to play an active role in society and earned a livelihood.

In the first phase Rs 60 million have been approved for the project by the provincial government to equip the transgender community with skills and education Naeem Khan added. He informed all the transgender community of KP to register their names with the social welfare department to avail the opportunity.
