ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani held a press briefing today regarding the new women’s protection bill that CII has drafted after terming the National Assembly’s bill as unislamic.

He said that Islam has given many rights to women. All of her financial needs including food, clothes, shelter and medical care etc. are her husband’s responsibilities. But defence is not a woman’s prerogative, neither is she supposed to become part of it. Learning personal defence, however, is the right of every woman as protecting her honor and grace is not only her right but also her duty. Women can only become part of the defensive measures in times on dire need and otherwise there is neither a need nor a justification for a woman to become part of the defence authorities.

He explained other clauses of the bill and said that they are all drafted exactly according the Islamic principles and that the bill passed by NA was not abided by the Shariah. He said that the bill on women protection by the CII was underway and the draft that CII presented earlier was sent to them by the Punjab government after approval. Now CII is furnishing a detailed bill for women’s pretection in the light of Islamic teachings.
