SSP Peshawar vows to maintain peace

PESHAWAR: The Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat has vowed to leave no stone unturned to maintain peace in the city.

Talking to the Daily Times here on Thursday, SSP Abbas Marwat said that the performance and efficiency of the city police had improved this year as compared to 2014-15.

Sharing official figures, he said that 123 cases were registered in 2014 while 86 cases were lodged last year while only 84 cases had been registered this year. He said that 50 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were blown up in 2014, 15 reported last year while eight IEDs went off this year.

Regarding suicide attacks, SSP Marwat said that five attacks were carried out in 2014 while one attack was reported last year and this year nothing had happened as such.

“Four incidents of target killing took place in 2014, nine were carried out last year while 17 occurred this year”, he added.

About extortion cases, the official said that 26 cases of extortion took place while 24 took place last year and 22 cases occurred this year.

The SSP said that 13 assaults were carried out on the police in 2014 while seven took place last year and eight cases were reported this year.

He said that nine rocket shells were fired from an undisclosed location on the city in 2014 while one incident took place last year and this year nothing had happened as such.

Regarding the search and strike operations in the city, the official said that 203 search and strike operations had been carried out from January 1 to May 25 where the law-enforcers arrested 845 proclaimed offenders; seized 76 SMGs, 22 Kalakovs, 19 repeaters, 94 rifles, 24 short guns, five handgrenades, 567 pistols, 18,844 cartridges, 205 kilograms of hashish and two kilograms of opium.

He said that there were 30 police stations in Peshawar and its outskirts which were being inspected on a routine basis.

“In the morning, the police stations are inspected for the implementation of the IGP’s directives and checking of cleanliness and proper record-keeping while at night it is ensured that there is no illegal confinement and parade statement (attendance)”, he added.
