CMIT accuses Karachi admin of taking bribe from encroachers

KARACHI: The inspection team designated by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has accused the police, deputy commissioners concerned and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) of taking bribes from encroachers.

The Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) has criticised the authorities for taking bribe, violating the rules and demolishing only the indigenous slums but spared the others by taking heavy bribe.

This was complained in a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. According to the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, the former minister and CMIT Coordinator Haji Muzafar Shujrah has expressed dissatisfaction over the removal of indigenous villagers residing since three decades after villagers’ complaints.

The letter has accused the administration of deputy commissioner’s, SSP, Anti-Encroachment Department and municipal administration in Karachi violating the rules and regulations and demolishing the old villages including Allah Rakhiyo, Noor Mohammed Barfat and others.

While talking to Daily Times, Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) Coordinator Haji Muzafar Shujrah has claimed that public grievances are increasing day by day, despite court stay orders. He said that the authorities in the name of anti-encroachment drive blackmailing indigenous people of metropolis but have spared other encroachers after taking heavy bribe.

The villagers have demanded the Sindh chief minister to take notice of the issue. He further said that the authorities have removed houses illegally adding that according to Sindh government record, these are very old villages and inhabitants have proved in the courts during hearings for stay.

Shurjah said the police have arrested number of protesting villagers and registered FIRs against them under the Terrorism Act.

He disclosed that the concerned departments and administration have become a mafia and under the shadow of land grabbing gangs in Karachi.

Daily Times has learnt that about a month back, newly posted district Commissioner Malir, Mohammed Ali Shah, along with other concerned departments actively pursuing anti-encroachment drive to remove all illegal cabins, stalls, carts, Dhabbas, tyre shops, rikshaws and mini-bus stands that are occupied under overhead bridges since long.

Sources said that these practices are only for their monthly extortion money.

Among a new encroachment near Malir Press Club, a boundary wall of ground near a graveyard witnessed at prime location of National Highway main road. It was sold and converted into several shops constructed under the nose of Malir administration.

It is also pertinent to mention that both side of the roads from Malir to Qaidabad via Razakabad, KPT, Steel Mill and Pipri occupied by the shops, nurseries, restaurants, cabins, stalls and other mafias.

After such results, criminal activates have been increased in the area and heavy traffic jam is being witnessed daily during the business hours due to trade and industries in Bin Qasim Malir, Karachi.

Daily Times tried to contact Deputy Commissioner Malir Mohaqmmed Ali Shah and other concerned authorities but they regularly ignored calls and messages remain unattended.
