LAHORE: Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal has decided to forgive supporters who assaulted him outside his home a few days ago.

Akmal had filed a police report accusing four people of assaulting him at his home earlier this week.

“We will not oppose the suspects’ plea for bail,” Akmal’s lawyer said in a statement to the media.

The cricket had filed an FIR against the offenders in Police Station Defence B following the incident, and they were detained.

The batsman has also chosen to drop a court petition in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with the judge handling the matter.

What happened

Four cricket enthusiasts went up to the cricketer’s Lahore home a few days ago to seek his autograph.

When Akmal refused to entertain them, the situation spiralled out of control, and a furious argument ensued. After the accused allegedly assaulted him, the cricketer filed charges against them.

The culprits were apprehended after Akmal summoned the police to his home.

Due to accusations brought against him in 2020 for failing to disclose corruption offers made to him soon before the commencement of the fifth season of the Pakistan Super League, Akmal has been in and out of the news.

Akmal would be allowed to compete again after completing a rehabilitation programme, according to the PCB.
