ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has assured the first ever mayor of Islamabad that the notification regarding devolution of power to the newly elected metropolitan government of the federal capital territory would be issued on June 1.

The finance ministry has also sought the budget proposals from the local government . The newly elected Mayor of Islamabad Shiekh Ansar, after the assurance of issuance of the notification, has begun to participate in the meetings which are being held for the transfer of power to the local government on a daily basis.

This is being done on the instruction of the Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

The high ups of the CDA and the interior minister are asserting the authorities of the newly elected metropolitan government . The interior minister has ordered that no further delay would be tolerated in issuance of notification regarding the powers of the mayor.

He also instructed all the concerned officers to make their attendance in daily meetings positively sure failing which action would be taken against absentee officers.

A nazim of the metropolitan government told the Daily Times that due to the personal interest of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, the establishment of the local government in Islamabad seemed possible otherwise it was very hard to realise this dream.

He said that there was a ray of hope that the interior minister wants to see the local government flourishing at any cost and it is also his wish to get Islamabad freed from the clutches of the land mafia.

The mayor has also reiterated his resolve that the land grabbers will not be spared no matter what price he may pay for this.

On the other hand some nazims also belonging to the group led by State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, who is backing the land mafia , are not a good omen for the metropolitan government.

It is hoped that all the conspiracies against the local government would die their natural death when the notification regarding transfer of powers to the mayor is issued .
