CJ PHC adjourns contempt hearing against Revenue Minister Gandapur

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel on Monday adjourned hearing in a contempt of court case against Provincial Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur after he submitted an unconditional apology.

When hearing commenced in the contempt of court notice, Gandapur’s counsel Abdul Latif Afridi appeared before the court and admitted that respondent has submitted an unconditional apology in written.

In the letter, Gandapur said that he was issued a contempt of court notice on May 25 for leveling accusation against the Chief Justice. He adopted that he didn’t speak a word against the Chief Justice however, he has mentioned name of contractor of Civil Works namely Shoaib Miankhel who use to blackmail government officials by identifying himself as relative of the Chief Justice.

The letter carried that has got contracts of roads’ construction but hasn’t started construction work on it while the current financial year has come to an end.

He said that when the officials of Communication and Works Department ask him to complete the contracts that he would complaint against them to the chief justice.

Gandapur adopted in the letter that people have been suffering due to non-completion of the contracts and as people’s representative he heard many complaints against Shoaib Miankhel though he has been warned several times not to use name of chief justice name.

The minister adopted that being a citizen of Pakistan he always has respect for judiciary and could not even think to defame it.

He stated that media has probably broadcasted his news incorrectly and tendered an apology if his press conference has created any misperception against the judiciary.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chief Absar Alam and co-owner of a TV channel who broadcasted the press conference were also summoned who appeared before the court and submitted their replies. PEMRA also submitted visual recording of the press conference. The Chief Justice adjourned the hearing till June 3.
