LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has prepared an Emergency Response Plan for the monsoon season from 10 June to 15 September, aiming to ensure clean, waste-free drains across the city during the monsoon season.
The plan has been prepared after consultation with the field staff of LWMC and WASA. The major objective of the plan is to facilitate drainage of water by removing solid waste and silt from drains and efficiently address emergencies during the monsoon season. Optimum utilisation of available resources of manpower, vehicles and equipment is a key aim of the Emergency Response Plan.
Besides routine deployment of sanitary staff, as many as 1200 sanitary workers along with necessary gadgets, tools and machinery will perform duties with WASA workers in order to resolve choking issues at around 146 major and sensitive places across the city declared as choking points.
In order to coordinate and facilitate smooth implementation of this plan, LWMC has established a control room which will be operational round the clock and will generate rain alerts as per information provided by meteorological department. Similarly, offices of the zonal officers present in 9 zones across the city are declared as emergency centres to respond as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency.
During the implementation of this plan, LWMC will maintain close communication with WASA and Regional Metrological Department. The plan’s activities will be triggered by broadcasting alerts on the basis of weather situation.
