Hakla-DI Khan section of CPEC gets Rs 22bn

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated a sum of Rs 22 billion for the construction of Hakla-DI Khan Motorway as part of the western alignment of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2016-17.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on May 17 performed the groundbreaking of the motorway, which would start from Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway near Tarnol Interchange and end at Yarak near DI Khan. This project is an important part of the western route of CPEC that stands among the priorities of the government. The 285 km long Hakla-DI Khan Motorway will be completed in two years. Overall 193.25 billion have been allocated for 83 development projects of Communications Division in the PSDP. According to the budgetary document, a sum of Rs 5.28 billion has been earmarked for five schemes of Communication Ministry other than NHA. Moreover, a sum of Rs 188 billion have been allocated for 78 development projects under the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) including the CPEC projects.
