PESHAWAR: The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan has announced 1.85 billion rupees relief package for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
Talking to media persons, Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan (USCP) Media Protocol Officer Wajid Khan said that the government had given a subsidy of 1 billion and 85 crore rupees on more than 1300 items in all utility stores in Pakistan.
“The Ramadan Relief Package 2016 will facilitate people in purchasing of flour, basin, sugar, carbonated drinks, milk, lentils and various curry powders. The relief ranges from Rs 4 to 100 for different items,” he said.
Wajid Khan added that the Ramadan relief package would begin on the first day Ramadan and would last till the night before Eidul Fitr.
“The package is divided into three main categories including a 5 to 10 per cent subsidy on 1300 items, direct subsidy on 22 items and 10 per cent direct discount on different curry powders,” Wajid Khan added. Speaking on the occasion, USCP Regional Manager Berg-e-Hina said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been divided into two regions for Ramadan.
“The Peshawar region has 772 utility stores while 750 stores make up the Abbotabad region. Three sets of teams, including monitoring teams, vigilant teams and audit teams have been constituted to maintain the price structure and the quality of different food items,” she added.
It’s worth mentioning that the Utility Stores Corporation has no complaint cell in KP. When asked how would the corporation respond to public complaints during Ramadan, the regional manager lacked a clear answer.
The USCP expected a three-billion rupees revenue from Peshawar Zone in the month long relief period in Ramadan.
