A make-up artist known for her skilful lip art has taken on artist Andy Warhol’s famous painting of Marilyn Monroe in a recent video.

Maryland-based make-up artist Ryan Kelly, has amassed almost 50,000 followers on Instagram for her stunning lip creations, which have included recreations of famous artworks as well as a variety of her own designs.

In one of her latest efforts, the artist pays homage to the actress and pop culture icon Marilyn Monroe, by paining a portrait of her on her lips.

Girl paints stunning portrait of Marilyn Monroe on her lips. And it’s not just any portrait, Ryan Kelly takes her inspiration from Andy Warhol’s 1964 Shot Marilyn pop art paintings, silkscreen works featuring altered images of the Hollywood blonde.

In a speedy 15-second clip uploaded online, Kelly shows the step-by-step process she uses to create the portrait, starting with a base of white on her lips.

Using pink paint, Kelly draws the shape of a face, then takes a very fine brush and carefully draws in brows, eyes and a nose. A pop-out blue is painted over the heavily-lashed eyes. Next, she draws on lips and the tiniest beauty mark before moving on to the hair, which she creates using a bright yellow, forming curls that go outside the lines of her lips. Returning to the black brush, she darkens in the edges of the hair to show curls and texture and then fills in the remaining white space with blue paint.

The result is a remarkable likeness to the famous pop art work, and Ryan goes on to play with the image by parting her lips, smiling and even snarling at the camera.

The effort helped Ryan get into the top twenty for this year’s NYX Face Awards. It’s not the first famous portrait the artist has taken on. Previously she has created lip art bearing the likeness of late actress Audrey Hepburn, the Mona Lisa and late writer and editor Edgar Allan Poe. She even created an abstract portrait of Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow from the HBO series ‘Game Of Thrones’. Outside of portraits, Kelly has also lined her lips with tiny pizza slices, turned them into Van Gogh’s Starry Night and even painted flawless fabric patterns including plaid, houndstooth and leopard print.
