PESHAWAR: The transgender association has claimed that representatives of their community have been facing tremendous pressure to withdraw the murder case of Alisha, who was shot six times and, later died in Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar last month.

Talking to this correspondent here on Thursday, Farzana Jan said that the officials of LRH and local political figures, including elected representatives, have been continuously pressurizing their community members to take back the case against the killer of Alisha.

“We will not step back from Alisha’s murder case until it reaches its logical conclusion. Our association will raise voice against such tactics at every forum,” said Farzana.

Alisha, who was also an activist of the transvestite community, was fatally shot in the jurisdiction of Faqeerabad police station on May 22. She succumbed to injuries in LRH allegedly due to staff’s negligence on May 25.

Four suspects in Alisha’s murder case, including a prime accused Fazal Gujjar, have been arrested by the police and investigation into the killing is underway.

“We will not give-in to pressure whatsoever and will fight for our rights and to seek justice in the instant case”, Farzana sounded firm.

Transgender Alisha who was shot eight times last month by one Fazal Gujjar had succumbed to her injuries at Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

Twenty three-year-old, Alisha was the fifth reported case of violence against transvestites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. Earlier, Adnan, Sameer, Komal and Ayesha—all members of Trans Action Alliance (TTA)—had also been targeted this year.
