Hindu man announces intention to donate eye to Muslim

Umerkot: Setting a unique example of interfaith harmony, Ramesh Kumar Bajeer has announced his intention to donate one of his eyes to a Muslim and the other to a Hindu after his death. He made this announcement while talking to the media at press club Umerkot on Thursday.

Umerkot, where Hindu and Muslim population was 51% and 49% respectively in its proportion and district has been enjoying exemplary interfaith harmony at religious occasions.

Ramesh, 47, retired irrigator said that keeping in view the looming threats to peace, pluralism, and religious harmony he decided to donate both his eyes to a Hindu and Muslim to set a distinction and to foster the same among the coming generation. He said that eyes are the most important organ of the human through which we realize the beauty of this world

He believed that it was the social fabric between this region. The communities have been integrated more culturally than religiously, therefore there are common characteristics in our living style, customs and traditions. He further said that in previous local body elections, many political entities beg for votes on religious grounds – which was real threat to the harmonized communities.

Ali Ahmed Jamali, a district Khatib and cleric welcomed Ramesh’sdecision declaring that it would be a unique example in the area that will contribute to the upcoming generation in order to increase pluralism. He added that his father was one the promoters of religious harmony in this area.
