JUI-F senator tries to attack Marvi on live TV show

LAHORE: Prominent rights activist and commentator Marvi Sirmad has said that she was ‘attacked’ by Hafiz Hamdullah, chairperson of Senate’s Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, during a live TV show.

In her social media post, Marvi said that Senator Hamdullah cut her comment, abused, and threatened her with violence during Nadia Mirza’s TV show. She slammed lawmaker’s behaviour on her Facebook and Twitter profiles.

Marvi was one of the guests on Nadia Mirza’s talk show on News One channel, and so was Hamdullah, a leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F. The lawmaker is an infamous person for his short temperament and has threatened different guests during TV shows in the past.

During the discussion, Hamdullah got annoyed at a comment made by Barrister Masroor, another guest taking part in the discussion. On her turn to speak, Marvi was interrupted by the senator, when she said that she has full support for Barrister Masroor for his comments.

In her Facebook post and through her tweets, Marvi described what happened thereafter. She says, “He (Hamdullah) started abusing me with worst possible expletives. Called me a whore and said ‘I will strip you off your trouser (Salwaar) and will do the same to your mother too.’”

Hamdullah tried to ‘beat’ her when she responded that he should try this with his family women. Fayazul Hassan Chauhan, another guest on the show, held Hamdullah back, and Marvi was saved from his punches. “He had to be taken away by the News One security,” she said. She also confirmed that she has recording of the show.
