Zardari condemns Shahbaz for remarks against SC

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Friday condemned a statement by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif against the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In a statement, Zardari said that Shahbaz Sharif’s statement was “irresponsible, contemptuous and unacceptable”.

“It is shocking that from the picture of Hussain Nawaz appearing before the JIT Shahbaz Sharif should have concluded that the Supreme Court is aiming only at the Sharif family,” he said.

“Those who bemoan that a child was made to sit there would do well to recall how Shaheed Benazir had to sit on brick piles outside jails with small children in her arms. Even then, the Pakistan People’s Party had not accused the Supreme Court of aiming its guns on the party,” he said.

“Even when Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was assassinated through abuse of judicial processes, we never said that the SC had targetted the party. The rulers should also recall the inhuman brutalities inflicted on their political opponents in the name of investigations in cooked up politically motivated cases that eventually did not stand judicial scrutiny and the accused were set free.
