MUMBAI: The central board of film certification has finally gave a decision that allows Udta Punjab to be screened in cinemas now.

According to the Indian Express, CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani said that “We have cleared Udta Punjab under A (restricted for adult audience) category, after 13 cuts the CBFC’s job is now over. It is now up to the producer to go to court or tribunal. We will implement the order”.

This upcoming Bollywood flick revolves around the important matter of drug abuse that is very common, especially among the youth of Punjab.

‘Udta Punjab’ ran into a heated battle with the Censor Board earlier due to the film’s controversial content. It demanded 94 cuts from the film, including removal of the word ‘Punjab’ from the title, which sparked fury among the filmmakers. Consequently, the director Anurag Kashyap took the matter to the High Court.

The High Court ruled the CBFC as being “overly critical” and asked it to reconsider its decision.
