ISLAMABAD: The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) is facing problems in its day to day affairs due to prevailing adhocism in the institution. The offices of two vice presidents and three directors are being run by acting officials, whereas a large number of departments and faculties have also been working in absence of their permanent deans and directors.
According to details, two out of three offices; Vice Presidents for Higher Studies and Research, and Vice President for Academics, Finance and Personal are working under temporary arrangements.
Both the positions are vacant since last year. The post of Vice President Higher Studies and Research became vacant after the retirement of Dr. Tahir Mansuri and currently Dr. Muneer of the Law Department is working as acting Vice President.
The other post of Vice President for Academics, Finance and Personnel is also vacant since the retirement of its last occupant Dr. Sajid-ur-Rehman. The working of this office is currently being run through Director Administration Raja Khalid Mehmood by making him Director General for Academics, Finance and Personnel.
Although, the university administration had advertised both posts six months ago, but no test or interview has been held so far and both the positions are vacant since last year, causing serious problems in the smooth working of day to day affairs at the university.
Furthermore, the IIUI is currently working in absence of its three main directors i.e. director finance, director academics and director human resources.
The post of Director Human Resources became vacant after the retirement of its last director Tabraiz Aslam and currently a deputy director Saif-ur-Rehman is working as acting director on the post, whereas the post of director finance is also vacant due to the retirement of its director Kursheed Alam and currently it is being occupied by a deputy director Saif-ur-Rehman, who has the acting charge of the post.
The most important and student related office of the Director Academics is also working with a temporary arrangement after appointing Dr. Tahir Khalaili as Director. The office fell vacant four months ago, when its director Miss Sugufta Haroon left after her retirement.
Although, the permanent Director Administration Raja Khalid Mehmood is available, but his office is facing a similar situation to the aforementioned offices because the director has a dual charge and he used to sit in the office of Director General instead of his own office.
A well informed source inside the university has claimed that the university high ups are itself avoiding to appoint permanent VPs because a handpicked vice president is more convenient to act on all legal and illegal orders instead of a permeant one.
Faculty members, workers and students were of the view that this ad hocism should be ended and all posts must be filled on prompt bases. A student of Sharih and Law Department on the condition of anonymity said; “I had a problem at the director finance office, but it could not be resolved due to unavailability of a permanent director. To resolve my issue, I had visited the office of the President Dr. Yousaf-al-Darwaish, more than ten times but his staff did not allow me to see him. Then I went to the rector but he said I don’t have the power to interfere in the executive affairs of the university.”
A faculty member also criticised the situation and said; “There is nobody, who can resolve our problems as the president can’t speak in English and Urdu. He is also dependent on his advisers, who promote only blue eyed persons in front of the president.”
While responding to the situation, Director Media and Public Relation, Dr. Abid Masood said; “The university administration is fully committed to fill all the vacant posts and we will appoint VPs in a few months after completing the formalities.
