CDA mafia behind delay in transfer of powers

ISLAMABAD: Talking to Daily Times the first Mayor of IMC, Sheikh Ansar Aziz said the CDA mafia was responsible to delay the process of power transfers to the IMC. Now the authority had no excuse to delay this process after the notification, he said. He said the bureaucracy had been reluctant to surrender CDA’s powers to the local body system due to unidentified reasons, he said. He also said that on the directives of Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, the Secretary of the ministry held daily meetings to address this issue that finally led to the enforcement of the ICT Local Government Act, 2015. He hoped the process of powers transfers would soon be completed as the bureaucracy did not have any excuse to delay it further”. The mayor admitted that there were differences between the IMC and the CDA on the issue of transfer of functions of various directorates. He said it was strange that the Environment Wing would function under the IMC but the F-9 park and Lake View Parks which were most renowned and revenue generating points were operate under the CDA. The CDA has refused to transfer the functions of the above mentioned parks as these were a big source of revenue generation for the Authority, he said. Sheikh Ansar said the IMC had prepared a comprehensive plan to instigate mega projects to address the basic problems particularly water shortage being faced by the citizens. Once the powers would be retained by the IMC, it would move for these welfare projects, he said.
