Six more schools for kiln workers’ kids

RAWALPINDI: A decision has been taken to open six more schools for children working at kilns in Rawalpindi.

As many as 39 schools for children working as kiln labourers have been opened in Rawalpindi in the first phase and over 3000 children are studying in these schools. The Literacy Department has started its homework to open six more schools.

These 39 schools are operating in the areas of Chak Beli Khan, Dhok Syedan, Chak Jalal Din, Dhok Hamidan, Fateh Jang Road, Wahdat Colony, Taxila, Nowsherwan and Gujjar Khan. About 3000 children from rural and urban areas have been given admission to these schools.

Books and uniforms have been provided free of cost to them and Six more schools are being opened keeping in view the growing number of children. The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has appointed a new principal to the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College for Girls, F-7/2.

Sources said on Tuesday that Professor Khalida Makhdum, who is currently the college’s vice principal, will assume the new office after the retirement of Professor Talat Samiullah on June 20.

The FDE oversees government schools and colleges in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The Federal Government College Teachers Association has welcomed the appointment and said it was hopeful that the new principal would take educational standards at the college to new heights and ensure the teachers’ welfare.
