LAHORE: Scattered rain turned the city’s weather pleasant on Tuesday evening, giving relief to citizens during the holy month of Ramazan.
During the next 24 hours, thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected to hit various places of Lahore and other parts of country.
Rising temperature during the daytime, especially in Ramazan, has resulted in several causalities across the city so far. As per media reports, a student named Muhammad Moeen died recently due to heat stroke in his university in Johar Town.
However, rain on Tuesday made the mercury level to decrease significantly and gave some respite to the citizens. According to Pakistan Metrological Department, the metropolis received 5mm rain in the city area and 2mm in the airport area. Maximum temperature was recorded at 43 °C with humidity touching 72 percent.
The Met Office informed that pre-monsoon rains were expected in the next 2-3 days in the upper parts of the country, adding that the pre-monsoon currents are penetrating in upper Punjab and Kashmir while a fresh westerly wave is also likely to approach the upper parts of country from Wednesday (today). Under the influence of such meteorological conditions, rain/dust-thunderstorms are expected at scattered places in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions and Islamabad in next 2-3 days.
The spokesman further informed that two heavy rainfalls before monsoon are expected to hit the country during the coming week.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) spokesperson said that their teams were active in the fields to maintain cleanliness during the upcoming monsoon season, as per their Emergency Response Plan for Monsoon, which was formulated last Friday.
He further said that as many as 1,200 sanitary workers are performing duties in 2nd and 3rd shift with Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) workers in order to resolve choking issues at around 146 major and sensitive places across the city. Similarly, the offices of zonal officers, present in nine zones across the city, were declared as emergency centres to respond as quickly as possible to curb any untoward and emergency situation.
