PESHAWAR: In order to promote higher education opportunities in the Southern districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Pakistan Tehreeki-i-Insaf led government announced on Thursday that the newly established Khushal Khan Khattak University in Karrak (KKKU) would be upgraded.

The preparation of PC-1 and discussion on the location as well as the purchase of land was also discussed at the meeting. It was chaired by Chief Minister KP Pervaz Khattak.

Higher Education Chief Planning Officer Muhammad Zaman, planning and development department representative Shoaib Gillani and Karrak MPA Gul Sahib Khan were present on the occasion. Speaking to the Daily Times, MPA Gul Sahib Khan said the land for the University had been purchased near Jial Chowk, and work on the building will be soon started. However, the MPA did not made clear the figures of the funds that the provincial government would allocate for the construction of the KKKU site construction and land.

Gul Sahib Khan said Karak University has been a much-awaited realization of the dream of the populace of the area. He was confident that this university would not only bring positive changes to students’ academic, personal and professional lives, but also bring social and economic revolution in the area.

He pointed out the K-P government was keen to develop the southern districts and construct the new universities and campuses as well as roads and bridges to provide job opportunities to locals and increase literacy rates.

Vice Chancellor (VC) of KKKU Prof Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khattak welcomed the move of the KP government and said that at present, due to availability of limited space, only four departments had been established but given time, “I am confident that the university could change the fate of the province,” he claimed.
