GUJRANWALA: Another incident of ‘honour’ killing took place in the populated area of Gujranwala on Thursday. A girl was killed by her mother for marrying the man she loved. Local police said that the 20-year-old Muqaddas got married with Tauseef in court about three years ago. Mother of Muqaddas Amna Bibi was not happy with this marriage.
According to the local police, Muqaddas took her two-year-old daughter to hospital for vaccination along with her mother-in-law. Amna Bibi was in the same hospital with her younger daughter. She took Muqaddas to her home by saying that her brothers were angry on her marriage but now she had settled the matter.
Police was told by the residents that both the mother and daughter had arguments before the incident occurred. However, residents didn’t interfere as they thought it was the family’s personal matter. Station House Officer (SHO) said that the neighbours informed the local jail when they saw blood coming out of the home after Muqaddas was slaughtered allegedly by her mother.
Police has sent the dead body to hospital for post mortem. Culprits fled away from the place after the incident took place and police is carrying out raids to arrest them. No one has been arrested till the filing of this report. SHO told that Amna Bibi and her sons worked on a brick kiln while the in laws of the victim were also labourers.
It is notable that four women have been killed in the name of ‘honour’ in past few weeks, for which the civil society had expressed serious concern and the members of parliament had also severely denounced such acts.
