ISLAMABAD: More than 600 candidates have filed nomination papers for elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that will be held next month.

A good number of women is participating in the elections. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has fielded more candidates than any other political party in the elections. The main reason for this is that the leadership of the AJK chapter of the PML-N had promised tickets to more than one candidates in every constituency. On the other hand, the PML-N parliamentary board awarded ticket to only one candidate in each constituency. Therefore, strong candidates of the PML-N decided to contest elections as independent candidates in several constituencies.
