Sindh Assembly seeks end to power outages

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly lawmakers in a joint condemnation resolution against federal government demanded to end load shedding in the province.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durani presided over the post budget debate session, which continued on Friday. A joint signature on resolution against WAPDA was presented by Senior Minister for Education and Parliamentary Affairs, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, The resolution said that the people of Sindh are facing acute shortage of water and long hours of load Shedding along with shortage of gas, which is also affecting the business, trade and industry in province. The resolution further said that WAPDA load shedding and shortage of gas during the hours of sehri and Iftar is continuous despite federal government promised to provide electricity and gas in the month of Ramazan.

The Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly, Khuwaja Izharul Hassan, annoyed over the speech of PPP lawmaker, Fayyaz Butt. He said due to negative attitude and the incorrect learning of opposition members, MQM members along with Khuwaja Izhar stood on their chairs in protest to make negative environment once the issue was resolved.

Khuwaja Izhar said that his fair conduct should not be taken as his weakness and if this would remain usual, they will se how the Sindh chief minister will speak in Sindh Assembly session.

During the session, hot words were exchanged between PPP and MQM leaders and the members stood on the chairs against the behaviour of lawmakers and raising the name of leadership. The opposition leaders including Khuwaja Izharul Hassan and Nisar Khuhro both tried to resolve the issue.

The lawmakers criticised over corruption and budget. The MQM leader Rauf Siddiqi said that the budget is a routine practice. He also emphasised on education literacy development and suggested that an emergency should be imposed for education in Sindh province for five years.

He said the law and order situation is worst and there will be no betterment, if Sindh government would not invest to appoint more police in the province.

He criticised Sindh chief minister that we had moved to CM House for demand of water for Karachities but resultantly received an FIR. MPA Sorath Thebo condemned the ruling PPP government over continued failures of Sindh government incapability and its bureaucracy. She said the announcement of thousands of jobs actually a worker package. The lawmakers said that heavy funds were allocated for education, health, and law and order but all in vain. PTI M|PA Khuram Sherzaman criticised over education and health sectors in Sindh regarding budget and said that there is no water for Karachi as it is a mega city.

He also condemned the ban on media over live coverage in the Sindh Assembly. He said PPP led government claimed for champion in the freedom of media.

On the occasion, Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza stopped his party members to comment on the issue.
