LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has launched a cleanup operation at The Mall after peaceful dispersion of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers from their sit-in venue and removed as many as 15 tonnes of waste on Saturday. Manual sweeping, waste container lifting, and mechanical washing were carried out early in the morning to make the area free from waste, said LWMC Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed who personally supervised the operation. The MD on the occasion said, “There was litter all along the city’s major road and required proper cleaning in order to restore its original look. As many as 50 workers of LWMC provided support to the local administration during the windup operation at The Mall.” He said that the LWMC team comprising of senior managers Suhail Anwar Malik and Saeed Khan, deputy managers Mohsin Saboor and Mujahid Ahmed and other technical staff including foreman Tanvir Shah and loader Muhammad Matloob recently arrived after week-long training in the working and operations of modern practices of sanitary landfill sites from Turkey. LWMC team was led by Senior Operation Manager Suhail Anwar Malik, who also attended various activities like lectures, group discussions, practical demos and visits to technical facilities under the supervision of Turkish experts. Bilal Mustafa Syed said that the purpose of sending the LWMC officials to Turkey was to make them aware about modern techniques used to for solid waste management and landfill facilities in turkey.
