Bureaucracy rebels against Maryam Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: After the forming of a forward bloc by some of the PML(N) parliamentarians, the federal bureaucracy has also rebelled against Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of PM Nawaz Sharif and has refused to obey her orders.

Officers who have revolted against Maryam Nawaz , include those belonging to the District Management Group, the Secretariat Group, the Income Tax Group and the Customs Group.

These officers have taken the stance that orders issued by Maryam Nawaz did not have any legal standing as the prime minister is under treatment in London giving all his authority to Maryam , who is neither an MNA nor a senator . She does not possess any official position and above all any notification regarding her empowerment had not been issued.

In the early days of the PML(N) government, Maryam remained on the post of Chairperson PM’s Youth Loan Scheme but on court orders she had to resign from the slot. Afterwards the post was handed over to a woman MNA elected on a reserved seat.

About one dozen officers on the condition of anonymity told Daily Times that a silent unity was formed among the bureaucracy that they would not follow the instructions of Maryam Nawaz.

The sources said that after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif went to London , his daughter issued many orders to the bureaucracy but they threw these directives into the dustbin.

An officer in ministry of housing and works told this reporter that they would not comply with the orders of Maryam Nawaz. Similarly another officer from the finance ministry said that the orders were received through Captain(R) Safdar from the PM’s House but they did not give much importance to them.

An officer at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat told this reporter that the official work is pending due to the absence of the prime minster and a dust cover is gathering on all the important files. He said that Maryam Nawaz was in the grip of three personalities namely Daniyal Aziz, State Minister CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudhary and Talal Chaudhary and due to their greasy tongue they three getting their personal work done.

One of the officers in the law ministry said that Maryam was not eligible to issue orders on behalf of the PM as no notification was issued regarding her and if some officers fulfilled her orders, disciplinary action could be initiated against him/her.

It is pertinent to mention here that Maryam Nawaz has established a media cell in the Prime Minister’s House that has a budget of billion of rupees ,from where she controls media persons. Some of her close aides told this scribe that Maryam had got ample information against the opponents of PML(N) from those media persons who were taking advantage from this cell.

The top bureaucracy said that either the prime minister should reassume his charge after coming to Pakistan or an official gazette notification should be issued to authorise any person to work as his deputy during his absence . They said that if the state of affairs are run as at present then it would be harmful for the country.
