Masked man opened fire in cinema in Germany

FRANKFURT: A masked man with a gun and ammunition belt opened fire in a cinema complex in the small western German town of Viernheim, near Frankfurt, injuring nearly 50 people, according to a private TV channel.

Quoting German media, the channel reported that the unidentified shooter barricaded himself inside the cinema complex. The elite police were on their way to the scene, the Bild daily and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

According to another German news report, 20 to 50 people had been injured in the incident. No comment from the police had been available until the filing of this report. The matter is under investigation and authorities have not yet given any details about the assailant either.
