ISLAMABAD: NADRA officers involved in the preparation of fake and dual Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) have started using their influence to avoid punishment and penalty. The interior ministry and NADRA have also become active to save their employees.

Well placed sources told Daily Times that the re-verification process of the CNICs would start from July 1 and NADRA officers who are behind the issuance of fake and dual NICs had started using their influence to stay safe from any punishment or penalty.

The interior ministry and NADRA have held out assurances to their officers to save them from punishment and fines.

The sources said that apology from any officer or staff member will not be accepted if he/she is found involved in facilitating the enemies of the country or terrorists.

NADRA employees who are involved in the offence of extending help in the preparation of fake or dual CNICs have been assured that they would be saved from punishment, penalty or suspension from service if they confess their offence before time and give assurance for not becoming part of such illegal and anti state acts in future. Their names will also be kept secret.

Sources said this had been done so that those involved in the illegal process show the names of those to whom fake or dual CNICs were issued so that no embarrassment is caused to NADRA in the process of re-verification of the CNICs.

The process for re-verification is going to be launched in the backdrop of the fake identity card of Taliban leader Mullah Mansour discovered after his killing in the territory of Pakistan.

According to the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan those found responsible in the preparation of fake or dual identity cards will be awarded severe punishment.

A large number of Afghan nationals have also obtained CNICs from Pakistan and the process of re-verification of their cards has become essential in connection with their repatriation to Afghanistan.

Hundreds of human traffickers have been arrested for sending the people abroad on fake CNICs and fake passports.
