CDA to build Bara Kahu bypass on Murree Road

Author: By Muhammad Asad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to build a four kilometre long bypass road to avoid traffic jams at “Bahra Kahu” on the main Murree Road. A survey has been carried out and soon the PC-1 of the project will be prepared by the Authority.

According to details, the city managers are going to construct a four kilometre long bypass road crossing from the back side of the congested locality of Bahra Kahu to overcome the continuous traffic jam there.

Sources, inside the CDA, said that a survey in this regard had already been completed by a private firm “Roshan Engineering”, which will submit its report on Monday. The proposed bypass would include a two-line dual road and its proposed length is around four kilometres. The project will provide an alternative road to the traffic coming from Rawalpindi at the point of “Shahdara” and by crossing Bahra Kahu from its backside it will again join the Murree Road before “Satra meel”.

Although, the unplanned settlements of Bahra Kahu are due to the negligence of CDA, but this project will be helpful to overcome the traffic burden in the area and frequent travellers can easily reach their destinations without entering the bottleneck portion of Murree Road, which is Bara Kahu.

A well-placed source inside the CDA has revealed that the project is aimed to benefit the housing societies and multi storeyed residential buildings as they will receive huge monetary benefits because currently the market value of these properties is down just because of the prevailing traffic blockage at Bara Kahu.
