LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Bahawalpur will have three faculties namely Bio-Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and Animal Production & Technology, 18 departments and an Institute of Continuing Education and Extension.
Dr Rizwan Yousaf, the project director, said this here while giving a presentation to the steering committee on the project of the establishment of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Bahawalpur at the UVAS Lahore. MPA Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood Jajja chaired the meeting which was also attended by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, officials of the Development & Finance Department, Communication & Works Department and others.
Dr Rizwan told the committee that the university would also have teaching and research centres on dairy cattle, beef animals, sheep and goats, camels, poultry, pet and wildlife, a central disease diagnostic laboratory, 16 departmental laboratories, a veterinary teaching hospital, pet and wild animal hospital and computer labs, along with a library, student teacher centre, seminar rooms, auditorium, sports complex and staff and students residential facilities.
The project is being executed by the UVAS Lahore, in collaboration with two Turkish universities – Selcuk University and Ankara University – and funded by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department of the Punjab government. He said that the university was direly needed in Cholistan (Bahawalpur) to utilise the livestock potential of the area and provide opportunities to the poor farmers and the locals.
