Say no to drugs

Author: Daily Times

Sir: June 26 is observed as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug menace.

Drug trafficking is a major crime that is akin to eventually helping someone to commit a slow but painful suicide. Drugs are a scourge that can bring down a mature and intelligent society to intolerant levels of psychological illness. There should be no leniency when handling peddlers and pushers who destroy lives of people, who when addicted to drugs may potentially involve themselves in regrettable acts. If we need to stop this menace from spreading then stringent measures are required, and society must play its part in curbing it.
