NAB has expedited corruption eradication efforts: NAB Chairman

NAB Chairman Retired Justice Javed Iqbal said on Wednesday that the bureau has expedited the efforts for eradicating corruption and to bring the corrupt elements to book by vigorously pursuing Accountability for All policy.

In a statement, he said that the dream of achieving the goal of corruption free Pakistan could be materialized by making joint efforts to eradicate corruption, adding that the corruption is the mother of all ills being confronted to the country, which poses a great hurdle in progress and prosperity of the country.

NAB officers are performing their national duties of eradicating the menace of corruption from society. Justice Iqba added that the anti-corruption bureau enjoys the position of the role model among all Saarc countries, and added that since Pakistan and China had inked MoU for eradication of corruption, both countries are working jointly for bringing transparency in economic relations of both countries. Highlighting the bureau’s achievements, the chairman added that NAB is a focal institute as per UN’s anti -corruption convention, and has therefore established a training academy for training its officers on modern lines to assist officers in solving mega corruption white collar crimes.

He said the anti-corruption steps of the bureau have started yielding positive results. Due to such efforts the bureau has recovered record Rs 714 billion from the corrupt elements and deposited in the national exchequer.

NAB has achieved the conviction ratio of 68.6 percent. NAB was utilizing all available resources to apprehend proclaimed offenders and punishing them from court of law. He added that from a total of 1,130 corruption cases, which are worth Rs. 943 billion, all of them are under trial in different accountability courts.
