Girl stripped, another arrested after brother ran away with Muslim girl

LAHORE: Sense of fear and uncertainty prevails in Taj Pura area of Lahore, where a Christian family is being humiliated and ill-treated in public after a Christian man – Badal, and a Muslim woman – Sehar – willingly left their homes and run away to get married.

According to details, Badal is a professional dancer in theatre whereas Sehar is a mother of two and both are resident of Hajipura Shadbagh. Sehar ran away with Badal along with her one child. On June 17, Sehar’s husband – Wasif – registered First Information Report (FIR) against Badal and her sister Shagufta under section 560/16 496(a) /380.

Victimised family’s relative said that after filing a case, police arrested Badal’s sister Shagufta and kept her for two days in Shadbagh Police Station where she was brutally treated by police personnel. Whereas, according to the law, woman suspects could only be kept in Race Course Women Police Station.

Talking to Daily Times, Shagufta’s mother- Shamim Bibi – said that police treated her daughter like a culprit. “We don’t know where about of Badal and Sehar, we are feeling helpless in such a horrible situation,” she said said while tears began to roll down her eyes.

On June 25, Wasif and his brother-in-law along with the Punjab Police stormed the Badal’s house and humiliated Badal’s younger sister – Samra – they torn her dress and beat her naked in front of public.
