PESHAWAR: Three policemen were killed and six civilians were wounded in separate attacks on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa province, officials said.

In the first attack, a remote control bomb planted on Pajagi Road exploded, killing a police constable and injuring six civilians.

“Exact target of the bomb has not been determined at the moment but the explosion killed a policeman identified as Farmanullah, who was deputed guard of a retired judge and was on his way to duty,” said Wasim Riaz, a senior police official in the area, adding that six civilians were injured in the attack.

“Two of the injured are critical,” said the police official.

In another attack, gunmen riding a motorcycle shot dead a senior police official in Dera Ismail Khan as he was coming out of a mosque after evening prayers.

The police official was identified as a Deputy Superintendent Noor Mohammed who previously served in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Meanwhile, gunmen shot dead a policeman in Peshawar on Thursday, sources said.

Police said that the gunmen shot dead a policeman, Shahzeb, near his house after he withdrew money from an automated telling machine in Madina Colony. The police registered a case against unidentified gunmen and started investigations.

Pakistan last month announced it had cleared the last militant stronghold in the northwestern tribal area. However, small intensity militant attacks continue to take place in parts.
