After facing severe criticism from the opposition that he is abroad and not fulfilling his constitutional duties, sources say, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will return to Lahore a day before Eidul Fitr.

The prime minister, who is in London after undergoing open-heart surgery few weeks ago, will observe the holy festival with his family at his Jati Umra residence in Raiwind, sources told Daily Times.

Earlier, media reports had stated the prime minister would be welcomed with a show of strength. Nawaz, however, told his supporters there would be no such welcome upon his return.

Few weeks ago, eminent journalist Arif Nizami had claimed on his talk show that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would be the next prime minister.

Nizami had also claimed Nawaz Sharif was desperate to return to Pakistan. If Shahbaz Sharif becomes prime minister then Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif would be the new Punjab chief minister, Nizami had claimed.
