ISLAMABAD: Millions of rupees were spent lavishly out of the Police Welfare Fund (PWF) on an Iftar dinner organised at a costly hotel in the federal capital by the IG police Islamabad on the eve of announcement of the Eid security plan. The Iftar dinner was arranged by the IG Islamabad Tariq Masud Hussain in the costliest hotel of the federal capital Manal Restaurant. Retired and serving police officers attended the event. Sources said that all the expenses incurred on the Iftar dinner were paid out of the PWF. This way the money which was to be spent on welfare oriented works for policemen was spent on serving dinner to high ranking police officers. Sources stated that private and personal friends of the IG Police were also invited in this Iftar dinner – persons who had no relevance in the police department. Islamabad Police spokesman Inspector Tahir said that the IG Police Islamabad had invited all the federal police officers in the Iftar dinner held at Manal Hotel. Retired IGs and DIGs and trainee ASPs were also invited. He said that it was not in his knowledge as to how much expenses were incurred on the Iftar dinner and who spent the money. However only police officers attended the Iftar dinner. Well placed sources said that the Iftar dinner organised out of the PWF was attributed to police officers but personal friends were also invited to the function. The lower grade police officers and staff are helped out of the PWF. They stand deprived of financial assistance to meet their genuine requirements due to the non payment of the PWF for the very reason that it is spent on dinners, lunches as well as on the recreational purposes of top police officers.
