Patients protest prolonged power cuts at Peshawar hospital

PESHAWAR: Frustrated over the prolonged interval of load shedding and continuous fluctuation of power voltage, patients at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) protested against hospital administration and blocked Jamrud Road on Saturday.

Due to the fluctuation and low power voltage in most of the wards of the hospital including out-patient department (OPD), diagnostic service and dialysis, routine service of the hospital was badly affected.

Patients and their relatives were chanting slogans against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and hospital administration and demanded smooth power supply to the hospital at the earliest.

Karim Khan, a patient’s relative told Daily Times that there was no power and water available in the hospital for last two days, adding that air condition plant of the hospital was not working.

“We voted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for a change, but sadly the PTI government failed to deliver,” he regretted.

He said that patients were suffering as there was no power in most of the wards of the hospital. He demanded that the government and hospital administration restore power as soon as possible. When contacted, the hospital administration said that they have complained about power cuts several times but no one ever came to restore the power.

Meanwhile, three out of four angiography machines in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar are out of order.

Patients are compelled to get angiography done from open market at exorbitant rates.

While informing Daily Times, the hospital administration said that the machines would soon be repaired.
