PESHAWAR: Flash floods overnight have killed 30 people in Chitral, local administration said on Sunday
Maghfirat Shah, the mayor of Chitral district, said heavy monsoon rains and flash floods overnight washed away a mosque and several houses in Arsun, an area of Chitral.
He said the bad weather hampered rescue efforts but by Sunday morning most bodies had been recovered and identified.
A spokesman for the disaster management authority, Yousuf Zia, said search crews had recovered the bodies of seven worshippers swept away when the mosque was struck by floods.
He said nearby roads had been washed away and so authorities had called for helicopters to join rescue and relief operations in the remote area.
