Lahoris all set to mark Eid with traditional zeal

LAHORE: Muslims across the provincial capital would observe Eidul Fitr with religious zeal and fervour today (Wednesday).

Citizens would celebrate the special occasion with their beloved family members, relatives and friends in order to share the festivities of the occasion after fasting for an entire month.

The celebrations of Eidul Fitr start with the preparations and distribution of special sweet dishes, including vermicelli, Sheer Khurma, cakes, ras malai and other deserts. People usually distribute these sweet dishes among their neighbours and relatives on Eid day.

The mosques administration have also completed their arrangements regarding Eid prayers in their respective premises as well as outside the mosques to celebrate the day in traditionally way.

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) spokesperson, while talking to Daily Times, said that the company has washed approximately 300 mosques and imambarghas that were enlisted in their system, including Badshahi Mosque, Data Darbar Mosque, Jamia Naeemia, Masjid-e-Shuhdah, Masjid-e-Aqsa, Shahdman imambargah and other major mosques of the city. He said that LWMC also carried out a zero waste operation across the city after closing of the markets besides washing the major roads to give the city a cleaner look.

After the announcement of Eid by the Ruet-e-Halal Committee, citizens were observed rushing to mosques to welcome their beloved family members who were sitting in Itekaf. People were also observed exchanging messages of congratulations with their beloved ones on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

Major markets across the city remained jam packed with shoppers while people were also seen fighting and waiting for their dresses outside different tailor shops. Meanwhile, a large number of people thronged to beauty salons for enhancing their look on the festive occasion. However, beauty clinics and salons increased their prices, much to the agitation of citizens.

Families on the occasion exchanged gifts with their neighbours and relatives besides arranging family gatherings. Girls enjoyed the eve of Eid by putting henna on their hands, while boys on the other hand preferred going out with their friends to purchase necessary items for Eid.

Housewives on the occasion prepared delicious food items for which they were witnessed purchasing essential commodities in department stores. Mothers said that their children were very exited for collecting Eidi on the occasion.
