ISLAMABAD: One auto thief was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Sector G-13 in the jurisdiction of Tarnol Police.
Sources told Daily Times that an armed car thief Danish Zahid snatched a car from Sector G-13 and ran away. The police intercepted him near Tarnol and he opened fire on spotting the police raiding party.
In retaliatory firing by the police Zahid was critically injured and was rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Islamabad.
The auto thief was identified as Danish Zahid resident of Model Town Lahore. Police recovered arms and a stolen car and shifted them to the police station in Tarnol.
When contacted Jamshed Khan, Station Police Officer (SHO) Tarnol Police Station told Daily Times that the auto thief received a bullet in his chest and he died while he was being taken to PIMS. The body has been handed over to his family members.
He further said that Zahid was also involved in an incident of robbery. He had snatched a mobile phone and a wallet from a citizen and a case in this regard was registered at the Police Station Golra.
In the second incident of car snatching he was killed. The case cannot proceed further because the culprit has been killed.
