ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday formally approved the expulsion of Senator Nehal Hashmi from the party. According to details, the PML-N’s National Ethics and Discipline Committee convener Raja Zafarul Haq conducted an inquiry into the allegations against Hashmi. The committee forwarded its report to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, confirming that Hashmi had made a controversial speech.
The PM then approved the recommendations of the committee. Haq confirmed in the report that Nahal Hashmi’s speech was against party discipline and its policy and so the premier gave a green light to the recommendations of the committee. On May 28, Hashmi had triggered a political storm by threatening the members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and judges of “dire consequences” after their retirement for probing Sharif family in connection in the Panama Papers case. However, the PML-N distanced itself from his outburst and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sought his resignation from Senate seat and suspended his party membership. “A show-cause notice has also been issued to the senator,” said Dr Asif Kirmani, the adviser to Prime Minister on Political Affairs. “We have also demanded his (Hashmi’s) resignation from Senate,” State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said.
